Maintaining your water heater throughout the year helps it last longer

Spring: Flush Out Sediment

Throughout the Spring time, turn off the heater attach a hose to drain valve as the bottom, drain or flush the tank until clear water. These simple steps improves heating efficiency and prevents rumbling noises.

Summer: Check the Temperature Setting

Hot water demand drops in summer so changing thermostat setting, checking for leaks around the tank, and inspecting the pressure relief valve helps save energy and reduce scald risk.

Fall: Inspect and Insulate

In preparation for colder months, inspect pipes for leaks, add pipes insulation, and potentially consider a water heater insulation blanket if it feels warm to touch to reduce heat loss and keep water hot longer.

Winter: Prevent Overworking

With colder temperatures water means the heater works harder. Making sure the heater area stays above freezing and listening for unusual noises helps avoid the overworking of the heater.

Your heater may need to be replaced if there is rusty hot water, water pooling around the tank, inconsistent hot water, or the unit is older than 10-12 years.
