Plumbing myths people still believe

If it is out of sight it is out of mind, right?

Many people still believe that these myths are truth and they are not. These are the most common misconceptions about plumbing.
“If it goes down the drain it is fine”. While it is out of sight and out of mind it might be ok but the aftermath is something a lot of people do not take into consideration. Different items such as coffee grounds and food scraps don’t have an immediate effect, but build up over time causing a larger problem.
“Flushable wipes are actually flushable”. Don’t always believe the packaging on the items that you buy. Just because that an item says it is flushable does not mean that it is. Wipes can clog sewer drains and the wipes do not breakdown like toilet paper does.
“A dripping faucet is not a big deal”. While it might not look like a big deal every drop that continues to drip is wasting so much water. Being conscious of different items in your house and different leaks helps avoid later problems.
“Low water pressure is just part of living in an older house”. While this can be true, there is a chance that there are leaks, buildup or failing pipes somewhere in the house. The house may be old, but is not the explanation for all the issues. There are ways around it and a plumbing can help you pinpoint the issue.
Being aware of what you are putting down your drains is important. Just remember that just because something is out of sight and out of mind does not mean that there can’t be an issue later on.
